Home » History ยป A224 Fibre Network
In 2008 these large pipes/conduits were laid through Badgers Mount along
the A224.
6 pipes, the larger 2 being around 30cm in diameter.
They make up part of a digital fibre network connecting 37 countries throughout Europe and across the Atlantic to America. Unfortunately this didn't provide fibre broadband connections
for Badgers Mount - just passing through!
These photos show where the pipes left the Orpington Bypass to 'mole' under the Badgers Mount roundabout.
The timing wasn't great as it wasn't long after the Bypass had been resurfaced and they dug a trench all along the southbound lane
through Badgers Mount to Polhill (you can still see the long patch).
