COMMITTEE NEWS Committee changes Several changes have taken place within the committee structure that you need to be aware of. After 11 years as Chairman Gordon Plumb decided it was time to retire from this post. Eric Raven volunteered to take over this role. Len Cottle has been succeeded as Vice-Chairman by Liz Dallimore and Gordon has taken over as the Treasurer from Chris Lucas. All of these changes were agreed with immediate effect. If you need to speak with the Chairman please now telephone Eric on 535171. Renaming of the Orpington Bypass Following a poll of all Orpington Bypass residents sent out with the last newsletter, only 18 responses were received. 11 were in favour of a change of name and 7 against. This fell short of the majority that is required by SDC to consider a request to change the name so this has now been put on hold for the foreseeable future.
After prolonged enquiries we have finally ascertained that the Pole which suddenly sprung up in mid July on the verge of the roundabout is to be used by Kent Police for an automatic number plate recognition camera. This is part of a county wide scheme to deter criminal activity.
POLICE SURGERY
The next surgery will be held at Polhill Garden Centre on Friday 21st
October between 10 and 11.00 am. All are welcome to join PCSO Jane Wright
under a gazebo at the front. SOCIAL EVENTS
The Macmillan Coffee morning raised £190. Thanks to all who helped,
donated or attended this worthy charitable event. The following events are being organised by the Conway sub-committee to raise funds for the Fighting Fund:
Quiz Night We are having Christmas Cards produced featuring scenes of Badgers Mount which will be on sale at the Christmas Fair and the weekly Thursday coffee mornings from late November.
Art Exhibition
*NEW* The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
A new Salt Bin has been installed and filled at the junction of Charles Road/Highland Road by Shoreham Parish Council. The other salt bins will shortly be topped up. Following last year’s heavy snowfall we contacted Kent Highways concerning the provision of Salt Bins on the Orpington Bypass and Old London Road. Unfortunately, these roads do not meet their Winter Conditions Policy criteria and they have refused our request for Bins.
Booking Secretary
The positions would suit someone who spends a lot of time at home and
would like to help with the running of the Hall. BMRA CONTACT DETAILS Gordon Plumb – 534279 News Archive - started Summer 2000
