Updated 24th Dec 2011

NEWS UPDATE DECEMBER 2011:

Bank holiday refuse collection arrangements
Over Christmas and New Year, your refuse will be collected on your normal collection day, even if it’s a bank holiday. Read the full Sevenoaks District Council announcement.

Severe weather communications (Issued by SDC)
Be prepared for severe weather
Severe weather can result in disruption to many local services, including refuse collections. With this in mind, please be aware of Sevenoaks District Council’s refuse collection arrangements that take effect during extreme winter weather.

Heavy snow and ice on the roads can cause delays and cancellations to refuse collections as it’s not possible, or safe, to drive large refuse vehicles on untreated roads or on inclines.

If your refuse is not collected please take your bags back inside and put them out again the following week on your scheduled collection day, unless the Council advise otherwise.

During severe winter weather you can find out about the latest situation by visiting www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/extremeweather, signing up to the Council’s twitter feed at www.twitter.com/sdc_newsdesk or calling 01732 227000.

For details of winter gritting and snow clearance arrangements, visit Kent County Council’s website www.kent.gov.uk/highways or call 08458 247 800.

- October 2011 BMRA Newsletter -

Hello – Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter and also to new residents who have recently moved to Badgers Mount.

COMMITTEE NEWS

Committee changes

Several changes have taken place within the committee structure that you need to be aware of. After 11 years as Chairman Gordon Plumb decided it was time to retire from this post. Eric Raven volunteered to take over this role. Len Cottle has been succeeded as Vice-Chairman by Liz Dallimore and Gordon has taken over as the Treasurer from Chris Lucas. All of these changes were agreed with immediate effect. If you need to speak with the Chairman please now telephone Eric on 535171.

Renaming of the Orpington Bypass

Following a poll of all Orpington Bypass residents sent out with the last newsletter, only 18 responses were received. 11 were in favour of a change of name and 7 against. This fell short of the majority that is required by SDC to consider a request to change the name so this has now been put on hold for the foreseeable future.

Badgers Mount / Polhill roundabout CCTV cameraMysterious Pole on the Polhill Roundabout!

After prolonged enquiries we have finally ascertained that the Pole which suddenly sprung up in mid July on the verge of the roundabout is to be used by Kent Police for an automatic number plate recognition camera. This is part of a county wide scheme to deter criminal activity.

POLICE SURGERY

The next surgery will be held at Polhill Garden Centre on Friday 21st October between 10 and 11.00 am. All are welcome to join PCSO Jane Wright under a gazebo at the front.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Macmillan Coffee Morning - Badgers MountMacmillan Coffee morning

The Macmillan Coffee morning raised £190. Thanks to all who helped, donated or attended this worthy charitable event.

The following events are being organised by the Conway sub-committee to raise funds for the Fighting Fund:

Quiz Night
Saturday, 8th October 2011

Tickets cost £8 per person available from Gordon (534279) or Tracey (534471). See your September Conway newsletter for full details! Please advise us if you are coming, whether individually to make up a team on the night or as a team, so that we can arrange refreshments and set out the correct number of tables!

Christmas Fair 2-4.30pm
Sunday, 4th December 2011

We are organising a Christmas Fair for residents. Come and buy your Christmas gifts, cards, wrapping paper, books and much more besides from us. This will be raising funds for the Fighting Fund. There will be plenty to see and do for adults and children alike plus lots of tea, coffee and cake available during the afternoon. Some stall space is still available if anyone is interested and has a product they would like to sell. Please contact Gordon or Tracey as above.

We are having Christmas Cards produced featuring scenes of Badgers Mount which will be on sale at the Christmas Fair and the weekly Thursday coffee mornings from late November.

Art Exhibition
Spring 2012

It has been proposed that we hold an exhibition and sale of local artists work with a view to a contribution from sales being put to the Fighting Fund. If you are an artist, sculptor or photographer and would be interested in exhibiting please contact Eric Raven on 535171 for more information.

The following annual Christmas period celebrations will once again be organised by the main BMRA committee:

Carols & Entertainment Evening
Saturday, 10th December 2011

We hope you will be able to join us for our annual Christmas celebration in the Memorial Hall from 7.30 pm. Admission will be £3 for adults, £1 for children and light refreshments will be served during the evening. Please contact Gordon (534279) or the website to reserve spaces.

New Years Eve Party

Our New Year celebration will start at 8.00 pm on Saturday, 31st December 2011. Tickets will cost £10 each (adults only) which includes a light buffet supper but please bring your own drinks and glasses. Last year’s party with a live Barn Dance band was very successful and we are planning to have a similar event again this year. Again, please contact Gordon for tickets and reservations.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations 2012

No responses were received following our request for ideas in the last newsletter. We still intend to hold a celebration of some sort so if you DO have any ideas PLEASE contact Eric or Tracey or the website as soon as possible.
A flyer with proposed events in Halstead is enclosed to which Badgers Mount residents will be invited.

PLANNING FOR THE WINTER!

A new Salt Bin has been installed and filled at the junction of Charles Road/Highland Road by Shoreham Parish Council. The other salt bins will shortly be topped up. Following last year’s heavy snowfall we contacted Kent Highways concerning the provision of Salt Bins on the Orpington Bypass and Old London Road. Unfortunately, these roads do not meet their Winter Conditions Policy criteria and they have refused our request for Bins.
