Please come along and get involved with the Association’s work. The AGM Agenda will shortly be available on the village website.

At the time of producing this newsletter, all current committee members with the exception of Nicola Walker, John Ralston & Tracey McCartney are prepared to re-stand. Tracey’s resignation means that the Secretary’s position will need to be filled. Additional new committee members are always welcome. Please do not hesitate to ask if you would like more information on a committee role.

F M CONWAY LTD UPDATE
Local liaison

It was agreed a last years AGM to open up dialogue with the local FM Conway Ltd (FMC) Chelsfield Depot. The objectives were, and remain, to explain the residents concerns appertaining to night time working noise from the depot causing a nuisance to neighbouring dwellings and where possible to work with FMC to eliminate or minimise these, along with any other local working practises that may be of concern to the residents which FMC may not have been aware of.

We have to date had 7 meetings and 5 site visits. These have included a BMRA representative and a neighbouring resident meeting with an FMC Legal Director, their Head of Health & Safety, a Human Resources Manager and the Local Depot Manager. From the outset of these meetings they have expressed a willingness to listen to and take appropriate action to seek a solution to many of the problems we have highlighted to them. The next meeting is to take place in June unless an incident or problem arises before. Should any resident have any problem or nuisance they would like us to discuss with FMC, please do not hesitate to contact the committee with the details i.e. incident, vehicle registration number, date, time and your address and we will try to resolve it and prevent its future occurrence.

FORT HALSTEAD

An outline planning application has been submitted to SDC to redevelop Fort Halstead. We, along with many others, have submitted an objection on a number of points including increased traffic and a lack of medical facilities.

ROAD SAFETY APPEAL UPDATE

We are disappointed that neither the village gates nor the speed roundels have been installed so far. We are trying to get more information on a likely date for these items to be done.

BADGERS MOUNT PARISH COUNCIL

Those of you who have looked at the notice boards will have seen that there are 6 candidates standing for the 5 seats on the new Parish Council, so there will be an election on 7th May. The candidates are:-

Roy Blamey
John Grint
Tracey McCartney
Gordon Plumb
John Ralston
Noel Wills

The first meeting of the Parish Council will be at 7.30pm on Thursday 14th May in the Memorial Hall. All residents are welcome to attend all meetings of the Parish Council.

TONY THE POSTMAN!

You may already be aware that our regular postman, Tony is retiring in October after many years. It has been suggested that we should have a collection to buy him a retirement gift. Donations in clearly marked envelopes can be put into a committee member’s letterbox at Oakdale, Orpington Bypass, Lyndhurst, Badgers Road, Sett Point, Highland Road, 15 Johnsons Avenue or September Cottage, Old London Road. Alternatively you can bring them to the AGM or give them to Gordon at the coffee mornings. We will let you know what we have purchased in a future Newsletter.

SOCIAL EVENTS UPDATE

Quiz Night
Thank you to the 54 residents who came to the Quiz on February 27th making up 9 teams and consuming 28 Pizzas! It was a great social occasion with many teams being made up on the night, forging new acquaintances between residents. Congratulations to the “Quizlamic extremists” team which included a number of the Badgers Mount WI members. Commiserations to the “Bitter and Twisted” team who came second and lost out by only one point!

Easter Egg Hunt
Our Egg Hunt took place on Saturday 18th April. It comprised a walking route around the Mount for children to look out for 40 Easter egg themed clues, each of which had a set of questions or tasks attached. Children had to work out the answer to the appropriate question or task in their age range. We are sure families helped too!
6 children took part and after careful searching and fun answering questions or doing little tasks the children returned for a well-deserved prize. All ages were catered for and the family members who joined them also enjoyed the challenge of working out answers to the older children’s’ clues.
Thank you to all those who helped on the day, we would like to give a special mention to Harold Govier for being there to send everyone off and count them safely back in!

SO, WHAT NEXT FOR BADGERS MOUNT?
How will you next meet up with your neighbours?
Would you like to take part in a Walking Treasure Hunt on Saturday, 6th June?
Start at the Memorial Hall from 2pm onwards, collect a quiz sheet and then take a leisurely stroll around Badgers Mount looking for clues and answering questions. There will be 2 routes of differing lengths, returning to the hall for the answers, prizes, a social chat, tea and cake. Donation of a cake would be appreciated. Fun for all ages - bring family and friends to help you out!
There is no need to book - you can turn up on the day. However, an idea of numbers will help with printing the question sheets and how many cups to get out!

For more information or to book your place please contact Zena on 01959 534566 or email zbelton@live.com.
