Hello – we hope you are all enjoying the spell of warm weather!

COMMITTEE NEWS

Annual General Meeting

Our AGM on the 12th May attracted approximately 40 residents. The existing committee was re-elected en bloc. Two new members also joined us. Committee members are:

Chairperson – Gordon Plumb (534279)
Vice-Chairperson – Len Cottle (534304)
Secretary –Tracey McCartney (534471)
Treasurer – Chris Lucas (534143)
Myra Marshall (534745)
Mary Bliss (534278)
Zena Belton (534566)
Eric Raven (535171)
Liz Dallimore (535080)
Richard King (533979)
Sue Wyatt (532997)
Roy Blamey (533452)

Liz, Sue & Roy have also been elected to Shoreham Parish Council.

Several matters were discussed by those present, all of which are itemised separately further on in this newsletter.

Village Sign

New Village SignWe are very pleased to see that the replacement village sign has at last been erected by Shoreham Parish Council. A new base, designed by Committee member Eric Raven, was put in place to avoid damage by strimmers and mowers used during verge cutting. We hope you agree that this is a great improvement on the original sign which had deteriorated over the years!

Renaming of Orpington Bypass

Following consultation with the residents of the Bypass it was agreed that the name ‘Hamilton Way’ should be proposed to SDC. However, it has been pointed out that IF the change of name goes ahead it will involve residents in notifying a considerable number of companies etc. – doctors, banks, company share registrars, insurance companies, utility providers, DVLA and many more. It was therefore, decided that before spending approximately £400 to submit the change of name application we would ask all Bypass residents whether they still wished to proceed with this. A separate slip is attached for those residents to indicate their response. If more than two thirds of those polled still wish to proceed then we will submit the application to SDC.

Speed Indication Device

Roy Blamey, Neighbourhood Watch Chairman and new BMRA Committee member, has agreed to look into the availability of a Speed Device with Shoreham Parish Council in the hope that this may soon be operational on Old London Road. There are now 5 volunteers prepared to operate the Device but more are always welcome! If you are interested please contact Roy on the number given.

Petworld

Following concerns about the possibly unlicensed sale of pets at the above store we contacted SDC and were advised that the owners do have the necessary Licence to operate as a pet shop.

F M CONWAY LTD

KCC Application

A sub-committee has been formed to deal specifically with Conway issues. A number of residents at the AGM volunteered to be co-opted to this sub-committee alongside several main committee members and everyone is working hard to oppose this proposal and deal with other Conway matters.

By now you should all have received notification of the meeting to be held on THURSDAY, 7TH JULY 2011 in the Memorial Hall with regard to the application the above company has made to Kent County Council for the ex-MOD Ammunition Depot in Shacklands Road to become a Secondary & Recycled Aggregate Site and a Treatment / Materials Recycling Facility. If approved this would operate 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

Please bear in mind that car parking at the Hall is extremely limited. Please walk to the meeting if you are able. If you must drive please car share as much as possible.

If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like information to support your letter of objection or sign the Petition that will be available on the 7th July please contact any committee member and we will get this to you.

Please note that a new website specifically concerning Conway issues www.badgersmountdefence.co.uk can be accessed via the link on the news page of bmra.info.
We have invited a number of representatives of organisations who can help our campaign to the meeting as well as our District Councillors John Grint and Gary Williamson, our County Councillor Roger Gough and our MP, Michael Fallon. Following our presentation on this matter there will be a question and answer session for residents.

Lawful Development Certificate

Following on from our earlier updates, the second Lawful Development Certificate (LDC) application has been granted. However, this has even more onerous conditions than the original Certificate which you will recall, were being objected to by Conway. We have ascertained that Conway have already broken the terms of the LDC several times by storing vehicles and equipment outside of the bunkers. The Enforcement Officers of SDC are currently dealing with these breaches.

It is important that residents are vigilant and report any potential concerns in relation to this site including many vehicle movements (the LDC restricts these to no more than 19 per day). Please report to either Sue Wyatt, Liz Dallimore (numbers overleaf) or via bmra.info.
