SUMMER GARDEN PARTY
Saturday, 12th July 2008
Our Summer Garden Party will be held between 2 and 6 pm at Oaklea, Highland Road
by the kind invitation of Dr. Mary Bliss. Oaklea is located off the track into
the woods from Badgers Road and additional signs will be put up on the day.
However, if you are unsure please contact us or check out the House Locator
page on our website. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes, biscuits etc will be
served. Any donations of cakes will be gratefully received on the day at Oaklea
(am preferably). There is no charge for this event but to gauge likely
attendance for catering purposes please contact Gordon or Myra and also let us
know if you will be bringing a cake. Children are especially welcome to come and
explore this large garden which includes a tree house, swings, tennis court
(please bring own racquets and balls) and croquet lawn. As the field behind
Oaklea has just been cut, it is available for parking as space near the house is
limited. Better still for those living closer, please walk if you are able.
BONFIRES & NOISE NUISANCE
Now that summer is here, we make the usual request about trying not to cause a
nuisance to your neighbours by having smoky bonfires, allowing dogs to bark all
day or playing loud music in the garden. Your neighbours are entitled to enjoy
their homes and gardens just as much as you are entitled to enjoy yours without
nuisance from them.
PLANNING MATTERS
The applications for 14 houses and a replacement car dealership building on the
Orpington Bypass frontage of Foxs Garage have both recently been refused. This
means that all applications for the site have now been refused.
An appeal against the refusal of planning permission for the block of 33 flats
and a retail area is due to be heard at 10.00 am on 7th August at the Hollybush
Indoor Bowls Centre, Hollybush Close, Sevenoaks. Residents are welcome to attend
this hearing.
MEMORIAL HALL
Following recent illness, Barry Saunders regrets that he will have to relinquish
his role of booking secretary. This means that the Hall Committee urgently
require someone to take over this important function which mainly involves
taking telephone enquiries, passing details of confirmed bookings to the
Treasurer and issuing keys to casual hirers. If you think that you could help
with this, please contact Derek Heritage on 01959 534538 to discuss this role in
more detail.
The Hall is now available for regular or occasional hire on Friday evenings as
the martial arts group has left. There are also some weekday mornings and
afternoons available.
BULKY REFUSE SERVICE
The next collections are Saturdays 28th June and 13th September between 11.15 am
and 12.00 noon, at the end of Highland Road near the Memorial Hall or at the
junction of Badgers Road with the Orpington Bypass.
POLICE SURGERY
The next Police Surgery will be on Thursday, 10th July from 11.00 am to 12 noon
as part of the Coffee Morning in the Memorial Hall. PCSO Dave Birchall will be
pleased to discuss and give advice about any concerns you have on crimes,
suspicious vehicles and callers etc.
SHOREHAM PARISH COUNCIL
We have asked the Parish Council if they can provide a bus shelter in Old London
Road at the Badgers Mount Post Office stop near Badgers Rise. This is currently
being investigated and we hope to have more news on this shortly.
The Association has recently resurrected the request to change the name of the
Orpington Bypass as some residents of this road feel that the current name is
totally inappropriate and misleading. Following receipt of the procedure for
this from Sevenoaks District Council we are now in discussion with Shoreham
Parish Council to move this forward. Names suggested so far are Mount Way, Main
Road and Polhill Way. If you have any further suggestions for a suitable name
please let Gordon or Tracey know. Residents of the Bypass will be contacted by
the District Council with more details if the proposal is accepted, and a vote
will be conducted.
