Welcome
to the Association’s Autumn Newsletter. The Association held
it’s Annual General Meeting in May 2001 in the Memorial Hall,
Highland Road and 32 members attended this with apologies
from 13 others.
Several
Committee changes took place during the latter part of 2000
and the early part of 2001. Trevor Simmons resigned as Chairman,
followed by June Begg and Dawn Cooper. However, following
these sudden resignations we were able to co-opt two further
members namely Chris Lucas and Alison Chase. Although Gordon
Plumb had stated before the AGM that he did not wish to continue
as Chairman, he has now agreed to continue for another year,
principally due to a revised work location making travel less
arduous.
At
the AGM no further members were elected to the Committee and
thus the Road Stewards for 2001 are as follows:-
GORDON
PLUMB (534279) one half of Highland Road.
TRACEY
McCARTNEY (534471) - Milton Avenue and Johnsons Avenue.
MARGARET
TUTT (534404) Other half of Highland Road.
VIVIENNE
CLARKE (532987) crest Close and half of Old London Road.
MYRA
MARSHALL (534745) Badgers Road.
JOYCE
PITT-PAYNE (534344) One side of Orpington By-Pass.
LEN
COTTLE (534304) Other side of Orpington By-Pass.
CHRIS
LUCAS (533312) Badgers Rise and half of Old London Road.
ALISON
CHASE (532065) Sandersons Avenue, Christies Avenue and Woodlands
View.
The
Committee currently has 9 members but should, under it’s Constitution,
have 10. If you think that you would like to join us and
make YOUR Community Association as effective as possible please
contact any Committee Member.
The
Committee has arranged the following Social Events. Please
make a note of these in your diary and come along to the Memorial
Hall and enjoy yourselves:-

Next

are being organised but we haven’t yet decided what form the
Badgers Mount event will take so if you have any ideas or
would like to help organise something please let the Committee
know.
The
Sevenoaks Mobile Library parks in the Memorial Car Park every
other Thursday. The next two dates are October 11th
and October 25th – each between 10.00 am and 10.15
am. PLEASE try to use this service wherever possible, as we
will lose it if it continues to be poorly attended.
Progress
on the Village Sign is slow at present. The Sign is now complete
and ready for erection. Planning Permission has finally be
granted BUT insurance of the Sign proves awkward. The Committee
are actively doing all that they can to resolve this situation
and hopefully the Sign will be erected before the end of 2001!
The
Committee is also working hard to try and effect a reduction
in speed along the Orpington By-Pass. We have also requested
Pedestrian Islands (similar to those at the end of Badgers
Road) for the Highland Road end of the By-Pass.
Hopefully
we will be able to report back with positive news on these
issues in our next Newsletter.
It
has been pointed out to the Committee that several dogs roam
freely on the Mount. As you can appreciate this is dangerous
to vehicles driving on the Mount and extremely unsafe for
the animals concerned. Can we please ask that you try to
ensure that your dog is kept securely within the curtilage
of your own grounds.
There
were several complaints during the Summer months of people
being smoked out of their gardens by inconsiderate neighbours
lighting bonfires in the afternoon or early evening. Please
be considerate of others and not light bonfires before 8.00
p.m. in the Summer and before dusk at other times in the year.
The
Badgers Club was formed some 25 years ago as a monthly social
gathering for retired gentlemen. They ‘ring the changes’
with talks in the Memorial Hall, Pub Lunches, outings etc
and challenge the W.I to Darts matches. Numbers have never
been high, but have recently decreased to a level when it
may not be viable for them to continue any further. More
members are urgently needed and if you would like more information
about becoming a member, please contact Dennis Inwood (534320)
or Barry Saunders (534536) as soon as possible.
Finally,
if you feel that you have any matters that you would like
to have raised at an Association Committee Meeting please
write to our Secretary (Tracey McCartney) c/o Sett Point,
Highland Road. We will raise all written issues at our next
available meeting and report back to you threafter. Please
remember that for the Association to remain effective it must
have an input from it’s members – we await hearing from you!!
