AGM UPDATE 28/4/2012
The BMRA are holding their Annual General Meeting at the
Memorial Hall on the 10th May at 19:30.
Please come along and show your support of the work we have done for the
past year.
We have a lot to report on and we have some very special news that we
would like to share with you, but which we cannot put on the websites at
the moment. We will even have some refreshments to celebrate our
community’s achievements and success this year. We couldn’t have achieved
so much without your faithful support and hard work too, (remember all
those letters you had to write last year?) so please come and join us and
find out all the news.

COMMITTEE NEWS
Annual General Meeting
The AGM will take place on Thursday, 10th May 2012 in the Memorial
Hall. It will commence at 7.45 pm, light refreshments will be available
before and after the meeting. All residents are welcome to attend. We
would like to see as many residents attend as possible to vote in the
committee members you want to represent you for the next year.
Several committee members are not seeking re-election at the AGM including
our Chairman. We need enthusiastic, interested residents who care about
the community to come forward and join us. If you would be interested in
becoming a committee member please contact Tracey on 01959 534471 or email
Traceybmdefence@hotmail.co.uk for information.
Ideally members are needed from Johnsons, Christies & Sandersons Avenues,
Woodlands View, the Orpington Bypass, Badgers Rise and Old London Road as
these roads are not currently represented by a resident. Although we would
still be interested to hear from you where ever you live.
Independent Parish Council?
Sevenoaks District Council (SDC) recently commenced their 10 to 15 yearly
review of Parish Councils and their boundaries. The first stage was to ask
for an indication of interest from any Parish or Ward wishing to change
their existing arrangement. As we considered that there could be benefits
for Badgers Mount to separate from Shoreham, we carried out a preliminary
survey of residents to ascertain the general feelings.
We received a reasonable response to this, with a large majority in
support of the proposed change. Therefore we submitted a proposal to SDC
which has been considered by the Electoral Arrangements Committee, but
further information has been requested. If approved, SDC will include this
in a draft proposal for full public consultation due to commence in mid
May 2012. The final proposals will go before a full council meeting in
September and the formal recommendation will be published in November for
implementation in 2015.
We realise the importance of this issue in Badgers Mount and will be
holding an open discussion on this possibility at the AGM. This will be a
chance for you to ask questions, receive responses and hopefully, allay
any concerns that you may have and how the proposal will progress. The
discussion will take place after the formal part of the meeting.
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
We will be holding a 1950’s themed celebration on Saturday, 2nd June
2012 in the Memorial Hall commencing at 2.00 pm. We will host an
Afternoon Tea for all residents based on 1950’s recipes, games for
children etc. If anyone wants to get involved the preparations for this,
please do contact us as we would welcome any willing helpers.
We are planning a photographic exhibition of Badgers Mount through the
years. If you have any old/new photographs of our village that you would
be willing to share with us for the day please contact Tracey as before. A
further update on this event will be distributed in May but please put
this date in your diary now!

Parking Issues at Knockholt Station
We recently attended a Joint Transportation Board (JTB) meeting in the SDC
offices to present our preferred options as part of the review of parking
restrictions around the station. A decision was deferred until a future
meeting. Our proposal included removal of the pay & display meters to
alleviate the displacement parking around Badgers Rise and only imposing
parking restrictions on the Halstead side of Old London Road. A further
consultation will take place on proposed yellow lines around Badgers Rise.
Art Exhibition
Two village residents
(Mary Bliss and Noel Wills) are arranging for an Art Exhibition in the Memorial
Hall in aid of the Badgers Mount Fighting Fund. The exhibition will take
place between the 9th & 17th June 2012. The Admission is free
at all times.

SPEED REDUCTION ON POLHILL
A recent consultation by the JTB, SDC to reduce the speed limit on Polhill
to 50 miles per hour has taken place. We understand that this proposal was
approved and the new limit will apply between the Calcutta Club and the
Star Hill roundabout very shortly.
SHOREHAM PARISH COUNCIL
Annual Parish Meeting
SPC are changing the format of the Annual Parish Meeting this year. This
will be held on the 25th April 2012 in the Shoreham Village Hall. Instead
of the usual reports from village organisations the Council is inviting
residents to submit topics for general discussion. Please see the attached
Shoreham Post for further details. This is your chance to come along and
see your Council working for you and discussing the issues that matter
most to the Parish.
CLEAN UP BADGERS MOUNT!
You may have noticed that much of the fly tipping along the Orpington
Bypass has now been removed following a campaign started by our webmaster.
He has been reporting these items on the ‘Fix my Street’ website. If you
see anything like this you can check on this site whether it has already
been reported and if not report it yourself. A link to this site to do
this is provided from the
www.badgersmount.net website.
The missing ‘Welcome to Kent’ sign was also reported and we have heard
recently that SDC will be installing a new sign very shortly.
UNADOPTED ROADS CLEANSING
Residents living on the unadopted roads in Badgers Mount recently received
a letter from SDC indicating that the Council would shortly cease the
regular cleaning of their roads. Several residents expressed amazement at
this as no one had ever seen this taking place. We wrote to The Operations
Manager at SDC to enquire when this work had been carried out. A response
has been received claiming that this was carried out on a forty working
day cycle, this has been further challenged.
DOG FOULING
We have received complaints from several residents that they are finding
an increasing amount of toilet tissue (believed to have been used on dogs)
strewn in the woods and also bags of dog waste thrown into bushes around
the Mount. Dog waste bins are provided in five locations throughout the
village. Please use these at all times for waste of this nature.
MEMORIAL HALL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
This will take place on Thursday, 26th April 2012 in the Memorial Hall.
You can arrive from 7.30 p.m., the meeting will start at 8.00 p.m.
Considerable changes are having to be made to the status of the Hall
because of revised Charity Commission rules which will mean that the Hall
will become a Village Hall in due course. If you would like to know more
about this matter please come along to the meeting.
PCSO JANE WRIGHT View more details on
Badgers Mount Policing
We have now received confirmation that PCSO Jane Wright is no longer
covering our village. Her replacement is PCSO Julie Stoner. She will cover
Halstead, Knockholt & Badgers Mount. We have made contact with her and
hopefully she will attend a forthcoming coffee morning so residents can
meet with her.
TREE FELLING
Several dead trees have recently been felled in Highland Road. The wood is
on the verge adjacent to Badgers Mount House. Please feel free to take
this if you would like wood for your fire.
BMD DROP IN SURGERIES
It was agreed by those present at the informal Public Meeting on 30.03.12
that for the foreseeable future Drop In Surgeries (usually held on the
last Friday of the month) should not be held. If a need to resurrect these
arises in the future they will be advertised.
