News Update: 3rd April 2008
FOXS GARAGE REDEVELOPMENT
REVISED APPLICATION
Sevenoaks District Council has received yet another planning application – No
SE/08/00869/FUL, this time to demolish the existing buildings facing the
Orpington Bypass and erect a 1 and 2 storey building to provide replacement car
dealership facilities with car parking and modified access onto the Orpington
Bypass. The building appears to be similar in size, height etc. to the existing
buildings on the site.
This is the most important development affecting Badgers Mount for many years,
and we believe that everyone should know about it and have an opportunity to
comment, not just those immediately adjacent to the site that have been notified
by Sevenoaks District Council.
As with the previous applications for this part of the site, we would like to
hear residents’ opinions before submitting comments to SDC, and also advising
Shoreham Parish Council of local views. Unfortunately, there are no weekday
evenings available in the Memorial Hall for the next 5 weeks, so to give you an
opportunity to see the plans, they will be available to view and discuss in the
Memorial Hall on Saturday 12th April from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. Please
call in at any time.
Shoreham Parish Council will be discussing this application at their meeting on
Wednesday 16th April in Shoreham Village Hall.
The application can be seen on the SDC website – online planning applications,
or by visiting their offices.
The expiry date for SDC to receive comments, quoting the application number
above, is 22nd April.
Welcome to our spring newsletter and to all new residents of Badgers Mount.

SUMMER GARDEN PARTY
Following the success of the Garden Party at Oaklea, Highland Road two years
ago, Dr. Mary Bliss has kindly offered to allow us to host a similar event this
year on Saturday, 12th July 2008 between 2 and 6 pm. Oaklea is located off the
track into the woods from Badgers Road and will be signposted on the day.
However, if you are unsure of its location please contact us or check out the
‘House locator’ page on our website. We will be serving tea/coffee, soft drinks
and cakes throughout the afternoon. All residents (adults & children alike) are
invited to join us for afternoon tea and a chance to explore this large
interesting garden with its tree house, swings, croquet lawn and tennis court
(please bring own racquets and balls). Parking is extremely limited so please
walk if you are able.
Donations of cakes will be gratefully received on the day at Oaklea (a.m.
preferably). There is no charge for this event but to gauge likely attendance
for catering purposes please contact us, and also let us know if you will
bringing a cake. Please remember to look for posters reminding you of this event
nearer to the date.
FOX’S GARAGE
All previous applications for development at Fox’s Garage have been refused, but
a new application for 14 – 3 and 4 bedroom houses on the Orpington Bypass part
of the site has recently been submitted. At the recent meeting regarding this,
it was generally agreed that this is a considerable improvement on the original
proposal for a block of flats. However, there were several concerns particularly
about the overall density, amount of car parking provided and access into the
site. We have expressed these concerns to Sevenoaks District Council and await
the outcome.
FORT HALSTEAD
By now, everyone should have received a brochure from Hines inviting residents
to an open day on Saturday 3rd May to view the initial proposals for
redevelopment of the Fort Halstead site. As the government have sold the site
for redevelopment, something is going to happen there. The most significant
direct impact on Badgers Mount will be the increased traffic on the Orpington
Bypass. Please take an interest and go to the open day.
BULKY REFUSE SERVICE
The next collections are Saturdays 3rd May and 28th June between 11.15 am and
12.00 noon, at the end of Highland Road near the Memorial Hall.
