ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Our AGM will take place on
Thursday, 13th June 2013 in the Memorial Hall, Highland
Road, starting at 8pm with refreshments available from 7.30pm and we hope
you can join us.
All residents are welcome to attend the AGM but
only current BMRA members are eligible to vote. If you have not yet paid
your subscription, this can be paid on entry to the AGM so that you can
vote during the meeting. Full updates will be given on the ex-MoD site,
Watercroft Woods and the new Parish Council.
VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED!
The majority of the existing
BMRA committee will not be standing for re-election at the AGM. Therefore,
volunteers are urgently required to come forward and join the committee if
the BMRA is to continue to function. If you are interested in finding out
more about taking on a committee role please contact Liz (535080), Tracey
(534471) or Gordon (534279) for further information. You can also email us
at the address given above.
CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS
View Proposed
Constitution
Following the significant changes to the
Constitution last year, it has been found that further minor changes are
required. The proposed amendments are now available to view on the BMRA
website but if you do not have internet access we can provide a paper copy
of these. Please telephone Tracey on the number given above to request
this. These changes will be voted on at the AGM.
ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN
BMRA Road Safety
The BMRA recently met with
Kent County Councillor Roger Gough and Steven Noad, KCC Highways Engineer
about our request for safety improvements on both the Orpington Bypass and
Old London Road.
We have been advised a number of safety measures
will be carried out later this year including reducing the speed limit on
the A224 Orpington Bypass to 50 mph (precise extent of this to be agreed
between Kent Police & KCC), installation of new pedestrian refuges on both
roads to link with Public Right of Way SR8 to Halstead and improved
signage and road markings on both roads. If you are interested, the
results of the traffic surveys carried out on the Orpington Bypass and Old
London Road recently are available to view on the BMRA website.
We have also been advised a footpath will be installed on
the east side of the A224 but this has had to be deferred to a future
year’s (hopefully 2014/2015) budget for financial reasons.
FORMER CHELSFIELD AMMUNITION DEPOT
We continue to
monitor proceedings at the site and have written extensive correspondence
to various parties in the last year, including submission of a formal
complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman. Full details will follow in
our next newsletter for those unable to attend the AGM.
BADGERS MOUNT PARISH COUNCIL
The setting up of the
New Parish Council is well under way. Those residents who shared concerns
about there being enough people to set it up and start the first Council
should be reassured to know that SDC have an obligation to oversee the
setting up of the new Parish Council and they will run the preliminary
meetings until it is fully active.
FORT HALSTEAD UPDATE
We have received notification
that the third stage of the consultation and engagement programme on the
future of Fort Halstead will now take place in the autumn of this year.
The proposed development team is continuing to test the options that
emerged from the first two stages of consultation, and liaise with
stakeholders and officers at SDC. They will hold public exhibitions later
in the year to display the emerging masterplan, demonstrate how the
feedback they have received has helped to shape it and seek further
feedback.
BULKY REFUSE FREIGHTER DATES
Apologies to anyone
who was expecting to use the Freighter on Saturday, 20th April.
Unfortunately, SDC re-scheduled this to the 27th April but failed to tell
us in good time. The next dates are Saturday 20 July 2013, Saturday 19
October 2013 and Saturday 18 January 2014 (weather permitting). The time
of collection at the bottom of Badgers Road is 10.15 – 11.00 am. Please
see our website for details of what cannot be put in the
freighter.
ATTENTION – LADIES OF BADGERS MOUNT!
The Badgers
Sett is a recently formed social meeting group for ladies of Badgers
Mount. It is similar to the coffee morning but there may not be much
coffee, more likely a glass of wine or two!! They meet in the Memorial
Hall at 8 pm on the fourth Thursday of every month for a purely social
evening. There is no Agenda or organised speaker, it’s just a chance to
chat and share views. The next meeting dates are 23.05, 27.06, 25.07,
22.08, 26.09, 24.10 & 28.11. There is no need to book you can just turn up
on the night. Please contact Zena Belton - 01959 534566 or email
zena.belton@btinternet.com to find out more.
BADGERS MOUNT MEMORIAL HALL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Badgers Mount Memorial Hall Annual General Meeting will be held on
Monday 3rd June in the Hall at 7.30 for 8.00pm. All residents are invited
to attend and take an interest in the only public facility we have in
Badgers Mount. Wine, soft drinks and nibbles will be available.
A SPEED WATCH UPDATE FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
An
NHW representative is now trained on the use of the speed indication
devices. The NHW can now arrange for the police to advise the best
location for setting up the equipment to ensure safety for all when
carrying out speed watch sessions, and give safety awareness instruction
to the volunteers. More volunteers are needed and if you are interested,
please contact Roy Blamey on 01959 533452. Small groups will operate to
record details of vehicles exceeding the speed limit, their speed and the
time for passing to the police so that they can take action against
regular offenders.
